My background and education were originally in the performing arts. Specifically music. More specifically, Voice Performance which is to say that at one time I entertained the notion of being an opera singer. Having tried living in that world and realizing that I actually enjoyed eating a bit more than I enjoyed singing, I entered the workplace, initially taking a job that made use of my arts education, but quickly finding that I had something of an aptitude for computers.
Having learned the basics of computers from my father when I was very young, I already had something of a foundation in the basics of how computers worked. After a few classes in programming languages (c, c++ and Java), I got my first job working on a help desk where none of those skills really availed me. Despite this, I managed to parlay a 2 month contract into a 3 1/2 year job which provided me training in Database management, and software development. I took those skills to my present job where I have been for the last 10 years working as a database and web developer.
When I’m not in front of a computer, I may be doing any number of other things: running, acting in a community theater show, screaming my lungs out at a hockey game, deconstructing movies no one has ever seen, or passed out exhausted from having no down time.
